Yes, I know it’s been a while since I’ve been in touch with you. I hope you all forgive me. As you know, the past days and weeks have been rather tumultuous for me.
Cortina is Always Worth the Trip!
I won’t soon forget last weekend in Cortina. On Saturday, I achieved my long awaited first victory of the season, and I unfortunately had a crash in the giant slalom on Sunday. I just take things one step at a time, though. With my great finishes over the past years and the improvement I showed in St. Moritz, I went to Cortina with a great deal of self-confidence. Even if things didn’t go the way I would’ve liked in the Super-G, I knew that I could still make it to the podium again in the downhill.
After I crossed the finish line and saw the number one light up, a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders, I tell you. The fact that I was able to equal Ingemar Stenmark’s record and be the first skier to win nine victories on a single slope was particularly special for me.
I would really like to thank everyone once again for standing behind me over these past weeks and months and for still believing in me. Thank you!
Giant Slalom Crash
I also had a good feeling going into the giant slalom. However, things often go differently than planned. Just after the intermediate clock, I unfortunately went too directly into a gate and was a bit late. I tried as hard as I could to avoid elimination, but I was unfortunately thrown
completely off the course. As you’ve surely been made aware of through the media, I sprained a ligament in my right knee because of the fall. The knee will be back in shape in time for the Olympic Games, though.
Physiotherapy
At the moment, I am undergoing physiotherapy at home and the progress I’ve made thus far is encouraging. As I didn’t want to risk anything, however, I’ve skipped the two giant slalom events in Ofterschwang.
I hope you’re wishing me lots of luck! With your support, we can make it.
