First of all I hope you’ll all forgive me for taking so long to get in touch. I’m all the more pleased that you keep supporting me despite that. Then your numerous encouraging entries in my visitors’ book really give me a lot of strength, and you can believe me: I won’t lose heart because of the unsuccessful super-G at the world championships in Santa Caterina.
Poor visibility at the top of the course
I’m not about to start offering excuses, but before the race I felt I was in good form. As the race progressed though the visibility at the top of the course grew steadily worse. The logical consequence was that the favourites were either well behind at the finishing line or dropped out altogether. I thought to myself, if I want to take a top placing I’ll have to take some risks. Unfortunately I lost my left ski-pole at the third gate already and there wasn’t much I could do after that.
But in spite of that I’d like to congratulate Anja Pärson, Lucia Recchia and Julia Mancuso on their medals.
Looking forwards
Now all that counts for me is looking towards the next races. Even though the second downhill training had to be cancelled, I’m sure we’re going to see an exciting and first class world championship downhill on Sunday, here in Santa Caterina. And to be perfectly honest I’m particularly looking forward to this race.
Training
The downhill training was cancelled due to the bad weather and I used the time for slalom training, after all I want to compete in the combined event on Friday. And for my standards I didn’t do too badly.
